Las Vegas Bowl Trip Dec 20 to 22, 2006

I was able to talk my good friend Bob into making the journey down to the Las Vegas Bowl again this year. We left Wednesday night after work even though the game was Thursday evening. Last year we stayed in St George the night before and then got caught in all the traffic coming into Vegas the day of the game. We did not want to repeat that this year so we stayed way South of the strip.

Of course one of the fun parts of this trip was that we got to travel in Bob's new Toyota Camry with full navigation system. No way we could get lost on this trip.

This first picture is of me followed by a picture of my friend Bob.

Preceding pictures were in the stadium . . . . .

Before the game the cheerleaders had a competition of their own.

Next the opening ceremonies.

This was the flag for the singing of the national athlem.

It was Vegas so of course there were FIREWORKS.

BYU won the game by a convincing score of 38-8 to end a magnificent season. First one of those in quite some time. And to think that they beat Utah this year too. How rewarding is that.

Next it was into the center of the town for all the fun one married man and a bachelor could have. Just to clarify I think the fun was limited to the volcano at the Mirage and a good dinner at the Outback. (Just like last year, we got into town after the game and too late to catch any buffets, but just by 5 minutes this year. We are going to have to figure out this eating in Vegas thing.)

Next day. . . . .

We arose early enough to get back to Hurricane, UT for a golf game at the Coral Canyon golf course. It was very scenic as you will see in the pictures. Need to teach Bob how to take pictures as only one of the pictures he took of me actually worked. I think he heard the camera focus and thought it had taken a picture. At least there is one picture to prove I was golfing in this beautiful place.

Had the golf course almost to ourselves. We were not pushed by other golfers the entire match. Weather started out a little cold but warmed up as we progressed, then as we were finishing up it started to get really cold again.

Saw two road runners while we were golfing. This is one of them.

Also had lots of cotton tails . . . . . as we golfed. I only saw one jackrabbit so no real urge to find a shot gun.

Finished up golfing about 5:00pm and headed home. There was a storm coming in as we were driving home so there were a couple of sections where the road was scary, but Bob had me back to Springville by 9:30pm to catch an Oxborrow family Christmas party there. As an aside, the salt, sand and gravel were not very nice to his car. I guess we really "broke" it in.

This was a wonderful trip. Maybe I ought to plan on attending the MWC basketball playoffs . . . . . .in Vegas also.

Concert: Brad Paisley & Carrie Underwood (December 1, 2006 at former Delta Center)

This was the best concert I have been to in a number of years. All of the artists were concerned about the value they delivered to their customers. Besides that the ticket prices were very affordable. I had been planning on going to this concert from the moment I heard it was coming to town. I even joined the Brad Paisley Fan Club to be able to buy the tickets early. It paid off as our seats were on the third row. At first we were a little off to the side until we had two different sets of people want to trade seats with us to be closer to their friends. Each time our seats got better. In the end we were just off the center and on the same row as we started and were very close to, as in just behind my good friends.
