Arlene Bean Meservy's Obituary
Arlene Bean Meservy
Arlene Bean Meservy, 85, of Provo, Utah passed away January 16, 2011 after a battle with cancer. Arlene was born August 20, 1925 to Lloyd James Bean and Millie Birch in Teton, Idaho. Born in a remote farm area of Idaho, she grew up with a love for the out of doors and for being with her Dad. After high school, she received her Nursing degree and worked in Idaho and Utah. She served a 2-year mission to the Mexico/Guatemala area, where she and her companion were the first sister missionaries in Guatemala. After her mission, she began working at the BYU health clinic and was lined up for a blind date with Keith Meservy, who subsequently became her husband on December 27, 1951 in the Logan Temple. They moved to Baltimore the next year for Keith's post graduate education before returning to Provo, Utah, where they resided for the rest of their lives.
She had a love for genealogical work, gardening, her family and grandchildren, serving others, canning, homemade wheat bread, serving in the church, building a cabin for family fun, traveling to Israel with Keith for his BYU teaching assignments, BYU basketball and football, caring for others, working hard, and good friends. She was called to serve in numerous church callings and enjoyed them all. She was accepting of all and showed love and kindness unconditionally. Quoted from her life history: "My greatest happiness and personal fulfillment has come in the losing of myself in the service of my family, my fellowmen and the Lord."
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ralph Bean (brother), Karma Bean Cox (sister), Sally Oxborrow Meservy (daughter-in-law), Cameron Schaelling (grandson). Arlene is survived by Wanda Bean Miller, Ruth Bean Hansen, Karen Bean Searle, Linda Bean Butler, Paul Bean, and her children: Mike (Lynn) Meservy, Marcia (Dan) Wheeler, Mark (Jileen) Meservy and Lynda (Greg) Schaelling; 19 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday January 22, 2011, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant View 3rd Ward Chapel, located at 650 East Stadium Avenue, Provo, UT. Interment will be at the Provo City Cemetery.

Quote -- Spencer W. Kimball
"We must remember that those mortals we meet in parking lots, offices, elevators, and elsewhere are that portion of mankind God has given us to love and to serve. It will do us little good to speak of the general brotherhood of mankind if we cannot regard those who are all around us as our brothers and sisters. If our sample of humanity seems unglamorous or so very small, we need to remember the parable Jesus gave us in which he reminded us that greatness is not always a matter of size or scale, but of the quality of one’s life. If we do well with our talents and with the opportunities around us, this will not go unnoticed by God. And to those who do well with the opportunities given them, even more will be given!"

The Growth Required to Return Home
“Therefore, how can you and I really expect to glide naively through life, as if to say, ‘Lord, give me experience, but not grief, not sorrow, not pain, not opposition, not betrayal, and certainly not to be forsaken. Keep from me, Lord, all those experiences which made Thee what Thou art! Then let me come and dwell with Thee and fully share Thy joy!’
“Real faith . . is required to endure this necessary but painful developmental process.”
Elder Neal A. Maxwell (1926-2004) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, “Lest Ye Be Wearied and Faint in Your Minds,” Ensign, May 1951 pg 88,90.

An AMAZING Casket
where the casket will be buried . . . .
the mountains are the Tetons.
Larry Wilde
This casket was done by the son of Larry Wilde who passed away this last week on the first anniversary of the passing of my father. . . Larry had fought the battle with cancer for the last year and was supposed to go a trip to Europe with his wife before his condition worsened recently. His funeral was a beautiful tribute to a wonderful, loved man. He leaves behind his wife (my cousin) and two wonderful sons. One is currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. . . .
